• Hardware mounted is recommended for stairway gates. Hardware-mounted child safety gates attach directly to the wall or doorway using screws. You drill holes in a door frame or stud behind the wall and attach the gate with brackets and screws. These are the safest, most secure baby gates and should be used for dangerous areas such as stairways - especially at the top. If properly secured to the doorjamb or between two walls, hardware-mounted gates are the most secure choice, although no gate can be guaranteed to keep a child in or out. Most will swing open only one way--such as away from the stairs--for maximum safety. Many hardware-mounted gates are made with vertical wood, enamel-coated steel, or aluminum tubing slats and top and bottom rails.
• Determine the type of hardware that will work for your stairway and review what type of hardware comes with your stairway gate to determine if you will need to purchase an alternate mounting kit.
o Stud and screw mounted to the wall
o Banister clamp mounting "no hole" round or square post kit
o Hollow drywall mounting (with no stud behind the sheetrock) kit
o Wrought iron post mounting - kit designed to safely mount safety gates while not damaging the wrought iron

Hallway Gates or Doorway Gates
• Determine how many you will need.
• Measure the width straight across. Precise measurements are recommended before selecting and installing any child safety gate. Child safety gates are adjustable to fit a range of widths and can be lengthened further using extensions. Some gates also come in extra tall or have height extensions. Also, some gates allow for angle mounting for those tough or irregular spaces.
• Determine the type of mounting you require or prefer. The same hardware mounted options listed above (under stairway gates) are available as well as pressure mounting.
o Pressure mounted child safety gates stay in place using pressure applied to cushioned pads against the walls instead of screws. A pressure bar or some other locking mechanism then wedges the gate into place without hardware. A swing-style pressure-mounted gate, which has a gate door that swings open, is also an option. Pressure keeps it in place and installation doesn't require drilling. Pressure-mounted gates are suitable for less hazardous locations, such as between rooms. They're useful in areas where falling isn't a major concern, such as in a doorway separating two areas with same-level flooring; you might use one, for example, to cordon off your kitchen so you can make dinner without a crawling baby underfoot, or at the bottom of a stairway to discourage your little climber from venturing upstairs. Pressure mounting is NOT designed for the top of stairs.
• Determine whether a wood, metal/steel (generally white or black), or clear gate will match best with your home décor or situation. Also, think about height, strength and durability if you are using your safety gate for pets.
Regardless of the type of gate you choose, insure that the child safety gate is certified through the Juvenile Product Manufacturers Association (JPMA), AND there have been no recalls on that particular gate. Always follow the complete manufacturer's instructions for installation.

Strong winds or gusts may put the aircraft outside its operating limits and therefore make it unsafe to fly. In the UK this situation is not uncommon but its chances of occurring can be minimised if the aircraft is located at an airfield with many runways in different directions. This allows the pilot to minimise the crosswind component and take advantage of a head wind on takeoff and landing.

Once the aircraft is in the air the weather can pose a whole new range of problems for the photographer. The main problems that may be encountered while undertaking aerial photography and Aerial Event Photography include:

* Low cloud, mist and fog.

This causes the obvious problem of being unable to see the ground and the features which you are trying to photograph. This is likely to cause problems for nearly all forms of aerial photography.

* High cloud, poor light.

This situation is common throughout the UK and although it restricts some aerial photographic operations its affect on others are small. For example Survey Photography undertaken for the purposes of monitoring traffic or pipeline work may be able to operate in these conditions. However, Oblique Aerial Photography undertaken for marketing purposes would probably not be undertaken in these conditions. Category 2 covers Garden Fireworks available to the general public for use outdoors in a fairly confined area where the viewing distance must be at least five metres. Category 3 covers Display Fireworks for use in a large outdoor open space with a minimum viewing distance of twenty five metres. Category 4 fireworks are not for use by the general public. These type of fireworks are used by professional firework display companies for events and do not conform to all parts of BS7114 or have the same minimum viewing distances; the strict quality control, viewing distance and all other health and safety factors involving their use being determined by the experience, knowledge and professional accreditation of the firework display company operating them. Professional firework display operators will always adhere to the health and safety guidelines as dictated by government statutes including The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and The Carriage of Dangerous Goods and Use of Transportable Pressure Equipment Regulations 2004. Apart from Guy Fawkes Night, professional fireworks displays are suitable for many kinds of events including weddings, product launches, fetes, fairs, Christmas light turning on ceremonies, carnivals, beach festivals, New Year's Eve celebrations, festivals, rock concerts, sporting event opening and closing ceremonies and classical concerts. The types of fireworks mainly to be seen at events include Lancework, Mine Fireworks, Shells, Rockets, Candles, Cakes and Wheels. A mine typically creates a wall of stars between fifteen to thirty metres in height. Shells are a type of firework fired from mortar tubes and are suitable for larger events with ample space. They are an especially impressive visual experience, being able to rise to up to nearly one thousand feet in height before bursting into a descending pattern display. Shells are available in different colours and are able to change colour from, for example, red to blue to white. The variety of shell fireworks for events is huge with popular examples including chrysanthemum shells where, as the name suggests, the display resembles the flower of the same name. Indeed, the Japanese word for fireworks - hanabi - can be translated as 'fireflower'. Another type of shell firework effect is the coconut palm where the firework resembles a palm leaf as it descends. Other types of shell fireworks can produce the effect of hanging in the sky and descending as falling leaves or coming down suspended below a floating parachute. A popular type of shell produces a circle effect or multiple circles stacked on top of each other. Shells can even be made to burst in the sky creating a heart shape. Newer types of shell fireworks can produce an effect that looks like a snail spiral, a fish swimming across the sky, a jellyfish or even Mickey Mouse. Rockets are generally used more by members of the public than firework display professionals who find shells to be more cost effective for the effect produced and without the worry of sticks falling back to the ground. Rockets are capable of rising to a height of forty five to sixty five metres. Candles come with a variety of effects and the types used by the professionals are a larger version of the roman candle typically found in a selection box available over the counter. Typically ten millimetres in diameter and twenty centimetres long, candles are basically fireworks fixed on the ground that produce a shooting star effect. Candles operated by professional firework display companies can be over a metre long and 60mm in diameter producing effects reaching over forty metres. There are, as one might expect, a range of candles available for professional event firework display including Hummers which make a whizzing noise, Salutes which produce bangs and Butterflies which produce a spinning tourbillion (whirling) effect. Cakes are a named after their resemblance to a Christmas cake and are a series of small candles that are fused together with one candle firing after another. Once airborne, they can rise up to forty five metres. Cakes can fire sequentially or in waves, producing an effect like a fan opening from one side to the other. They can even fire from different sides, meeting in the middle and then opening like a curtain. The effect can be particularly impressive, often resembling the effect that can be produced when moving a water hose through the air from side to side. They can even be fired sequentially to produce different patterns in the air such a peacock tail or heart. Further types of effects include strobe and glitter and, depending on the type of cake chosen, cakes that whizz, crackle and whistle. Wheels are spinning fireworks attached to a post. The main different types of wheels are Catherine Wheels, Saxon Wheels and Slat Wheels. Catherine Wheels are fireworks comprised of a flattened paper tube of composition coiled around a plastic centre which spin around their central point causing sparks to fly in all directions. Saxon Wheels are a tube filled with composition which is pivoted at one end to produce a different type of spinning effect whilst Slat Wheels are two fireworks (drivers) positioned at right angles to each other on a single length of wood or thick cardboard to produce another variant on the firework wheel effect. Fireworks at display events are generally electrically fired although can be still be hand fired or 'port fired' as this type of firing is known in the industry. Fireworks which are port fired are lit by the operative at arms length by a flame igniter. The more extensively used electrical firing method uses electrical ignition whereby a device similar to a match head is connected to the firework and by cable to an electrical current which, when connected, causes the firework to be activated. Electrical firing is often radio controlled although for events such as those involving music, especially classical music concerts, the fireworks can be computer fired. Computer firing involves the process being linked to a computer that has been programmed to acknowledge the structure of the music and electrically fire different fireworks at appropriate times to match the mood of the music. The number of operatives required for an event varies enormously, depending on the size of the event. A small to medium sized event will usually require two professionals whilst larger events, particularly where the fireworks are firing from more than one site, could necessitate up to thirty operatives. When planning to have fireworks at an event it is advisable to consider the conditions necessary to ensure everything runs smoothly. It is essential that the event location has good access and enough space for a safety zone to be established between the operatives and the crowd. It is usually recommended that the safety zone area is a minimum of fifty metres although this can be less as determined by the professional firework display company that you employ. There also needs to be a space for a safety fall-out area behind the operatives for card, dust and general debris created by the firework display. Generally speaking, the bigger the safety fall-out area, the better. The site will need to be risk assessed in advance by the firework display company and the event organizer will need to have stewards and marshalls in attendance to patrol the safety zones. It is also advisable to take into account the car parking space that may be required and, if there is a risk of bad weather, putting into place measures to assist cars that may be bogged down as a result of muddy conditions. Professional firework display companies will notify the police of the event display as a matter of course and will also inform the local coastguard for events taking place at coastal locations. They will additionally notify the Civil Aviation Authority of the event if it is to take place near an airfield as permission must be granted by the CAA before the event can take place. For large events it is advisable for the event organiser to notify the ambulance services in advance and the professional firework company will be happy to provide advice on this matter. It is essential when booking a professional fireworks display company for an event in the UK to ensure that they are accredited by an industry association. All reputable companies will be members of either The British Pyrotechnists Association (BPA) or The Explosives Industry Group (EIG). Professional firework display companies will always have insurance liability cover of at least £5,000,000 with the industry standard being around £10,000,000. Adjacent to this is the Kids Activity Centre where children aged 4-12 are invited to join in all the many varied activities on offer. In addition to daily activities (a small fee may be applicable for certain activities) there are Kids Crew Camps on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Older children are catered for too. They are invited to come along for volleyball, movies and many other fun things with people their own age.

But perhaps in your mind you believe that it is still very expensive to produce videos for your singles. The integrated Music on Hold feature allows users to place on-net and off-net users on hold with music that is streamed from a streaming source. This source makes music available to any possible on-net or off-net device that is placed on hold. On-net devices include station devices and applications that are placed on hold, consult hold, or park hold by an interactive voice response or call distributor. Off-net users include those who are connected through Media Gateway Control Protocol or skinny gateways. The Music on Hold feature is also available for IP POTS phones that are connected to the IP network through FXS ports. The integrated Music on Hold feature covers media server, data base administration, call control, media resource manager, and media control functional areas. The music on hold server provides the music resources/streams. These resources register with the Call Manager during the initialization/recovery period. Database administration provides a user interface to allow the Call Manager administrator to configure the Music on Hold feature for the device. Database administration also provides Call Manager call control with configuration information.

Call control controls the music on hold scenario logic. The media resource manager processes the registration request from the music on hold server and allocates/reallocates the music on hold resources under the request of call control. Media control controls the establishment of media stream connections, which can be one-way or two-way connections. You must ensure that an end device is provisioned with music on hold-related information before music on hold functions for that device. Initializing a Call Manager creates a media resource manager. The music on hold server registers to the media resource manager with its music on hold resources. When an end device or feature places a call on hold, Call Manager connects the held device to a music resource. When the held device is retrieved, it disconnects from the music on hold resource and resumes normal activity. For music on hold to function, you must perform the actions in the following list: Configure music on hold servers and Configure audio sources. Always define audio sources first and then set up the music on hold servers, especially when multicast will be used. The user interface allows either step to take place first. And if an audio source is configured for multicast, the MOH server always transmits the audio stream, regardless of whether devices are held. Configure media resource groups. If multicast is desired, check the Use Multicast for MOH Audio check box. Do configure media resource group lists and assign media resource group lists and audio sources to device pools. Do Assign media resource group lists and audio sources to devices to override assignments made to device pools and always assign audio sources to lines to override device settings.

The workshop is a great place for reusing items formally destined for the landfill. Even if you do not have a shop or craft area you can always donate the items mentioned in the following paragraphs to friends, schools, shops, youth centers… The concept of reusing is as limitless as your imagination.

Screws, bolts, picture hooks, plant hangers, curtain hooks, and hinges are common hardware items used in most homes. Although not overly costly when purchased a few pieces at a time, they can add up over the years. Salvage any reusable hardware and parts from old cabinets, furniture or mechanical items before discarding. These can easily be organized and stored in plastic containers of different sizes. Shop with this in mind and purchase items like peanut butter or mayonnaise in clear plastic containers. These are our favorite as they are recyclable, sturdy and you can easily determine the jar’s contents at a glance. When buying screws and bolts avoid the small plastic packages and try to find a store that sells these items out of bulk bins. You save money and packaging too.

Strong plastic jugs from juice, milk, or detergents make excellent storage containers for tools, rags or parts in the workshop. At a section near the top of the jug remove all but a flap of plastic to attach it to a wall or post. Any rough spots can be filed off or covered with tape. Drill a few holes in the bottom for drainage and use in the same way outside in the garden and for storing clothespins.

Any clothing or towels too ragged to donate to a thrift store still have value. Cut the material into squares of different sizes to use as cleanup rags. Many garages, cabinet shops and backyard mechanics will gratefully accept excess rags. Sewing groups would gladly accept the buttons and zippers gleaned from the clothing. Children’s programs and daycare centers also use buttons for crafts.

Small household appliances that are no longer working can be salvaged for parts. If you are not familiar with this type of operation don’t attempt it - you can always donate them to handymen types that you may know, or appliance repair classes in your community. Handles from pots and pans can come in handy for fashioning custom tools, or they can be used to make a storage box easy to carry. Old utensils can be bent and made into various picks and scrapers.

The workshop can become a veritable stew pot of reuse ideas. As it is not a place commonly viewed by guests or neighbors it will not matter so much if the look is compromised by the reused items. Of course, the most important thing is the fact that you are reducing your landfill contribution by taking the matter into your own hands and making a difference!

Proofread Your Credit Reports

Get your credit reports. You need all three bureaus to do the job right. I personally suggest that you invest a few dollars in the process and get a nice tri-merged report instead of individual reports from the three bureaus. Tri-merged reports are designed for clarity. This can make your credit repair job much easier. If you get individual reports you will discover that they each come in a unique format, and can be hard to understand. No need to struggle.

Correct Card Limits

Here is a tricky issue that most people don’t pick up on. Many credit card issuers under-report card limits. This matters because your credit score is heavily influenced by the relationship between your balances and your limits. If a limit is under-reported it will appear to the credit scoring formula that you are using a higher percentage of your card than you really are. Put on your reading glasses and catch every mistake!

Eliminate Duplicate Accounts

Another little problem that slips under most people’s radar screen is duplicate accounts. These may not be derogatory at all but may be hurting your credit score by making it appear as if you have more debt than you really do. Clean up your reports and have these duplicates removed.

Dispute Most Collections

Many people are not aware of the fact that collectors are supposed to remove collection accounts from your credit report when they sell your debt to another collector or send it back to the original creditor. Collections are bought and sold so often that it is worth challenging most collections. Focus on older and smaller accounts. Don’t dispute new accounts that you know are correct. This is a powerful credit repair technique for eliminating reporting violations, not for eliminating legitimate debt.

Dispute all Unknown Items

Many consumers are a victim of a common credit reporting breakdown called a file merger error. If you share similar identifying characteristics with another person their accounts may be mixed with yours. You should first contact the creditor directly and ask if they really have an account in your name. If they say no, dispute the issue with the credit bureau; if they say yes, and you know that you never opened an account with them, you may be a victim of identity theft and you should contact a credit repair expert for advice right away.

Build New Credit Today

Don’t wait until your credit is great before building new credit. You need to start today. The right way to rebuild credit is with MasterCard and Visa accounts. Stay away from store cards and consumer debt. If you feel that you will be denied for new credit cards, get secured cards. You won’t be denied and you will get a much needed head start on building your credit scores. Secured cards are the ideal credit repair tool.

Close Store Accounts

Store cards and consumer debt, like furniture store loans, are not an option for re-building your credit. The credit scoring formula has a built-in bias against this type of debt and your scores will suffer. As mentioned, stick with MasterCard and Visa. If you have open store cards or consumer debt, start chipping away at the balances now and close the accounts if you have no further use for them.

Accounting Ethics Courses: Optional or Necessary

Ethics and high morality are in high demand today especially among corporate America, and specifically within the accounting profession. After the ethical failures of Enron and WorldCom, a public outcry for future preventative measures resonated throughout the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), and the accounting community at large. Consequently, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the overseeing government board of the AICPA, released the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, otherwise known as SOX. The act requires a higher performance standard for accounting firms and the audits they perform to prevent future accounting scandals. SOX, which has been extremely beneficial, doesn’t change the ethical standards of an individual but instead takes away most of the opportunity to commit a scandalous act. The basic character of the fraudulent individual remains corrupt, even with legislation in place. The question is then posed: Can ethics be taught, and if so, what accounting or business ethics courses are available? The answer is not ironclad as the word ethics describes the morality of an individual, which is hard to measure. There are also very limited courses offered on ethics, however ethical education should be a required course in college and a prerequisite to new employment for all accounting firms.

Most higher education institutions, and some high school level institutions, are implementing brief ethical materials into their curriculum, but very few offer courses on the subject. The basic argument against incorporating a required accounting ethics course is that there isn’t any proof that individuals who take a course would be any more ethical than they already are. If this is truly the singular obstruction to imposing an accounting course in ethics, than why aren’t other courses in the curriculum subject to examination from proof. Many audits, specifically those at Enron and WorldCom, have failed because of poor functional accounting knowledge, not just ethical queries. Most other curricular accounting courses would fail a proof assessment required by those who oppose an accounting ethics course. It is necessary to have an accounting ethics course to properly prepare students for any future ethical temptation they may experience within the field. Without experience in fraud recognition or ethical righteousness, many new timid accountants are susceptible to fraud or ethical dilemmas. A recommendation would be to add not just one course on ethics into a curriculum, but possibly three or four. A course in ethical theory could tie into another ethics course involved in spotting frauds and ethical dilemmas while a third course could focus on answering these ethical uncertainties.

The need for an accounting ethics course is also very apparent in how much destructive attention financial catastrophes attract to the profession. The recent big company accounting scandals all brought negative publicity to the accounting field. The burden of the economic failures in today’s society must be placed somewhere, and many people look at accountants as an outlet to place that burden. All of these events from big companies provide a negative perception of the accounting field, and that’s not to mention the small business owners who have encountered other accounting mistakes or unethical occurrences. This is not to say that legitimate and honest mistakes will not be made by new students, but the ability to recognize the mistakes and evaluate ethical problems can be reduced with the addition of an ethics course. The more education and experience that new accountants have and acquire the fewer mistakes that will occur, and ultimately the less negative publicity the profession will receive. It is extremely important that in the accounting profession, clients feel secure and trusting of those who they employ.

Another need for an ethics course comes from a common stereotype of accountants. The stereotype is that accountants are known to simply follow the rules, or do just enough to meet the basic criteria. To correct ethical dilemmas, it is required to go above and beyond the norm to investigate and solve uncertainties. A class in the area of ethics could help prepare and motivate new accountants to become more proactive when evaluating a possible unethical or fraudulent scenario. Clients will feel a greater sense of security with a proactive accountant, and ultimately bring more profit to the profession.

Society can not function without ethical people. The business world and accounting profession can not function without ethical people. It is for this reason that an accounting ethics course or courses are imperative. The elimination of stereotypes, fewer mistakes, and a heightened sense of awareness is exactly what could be acquired from an accounting ethics course. It is important to add ethics courses immediately, and for employers to require that their new hire’s be educated in ethics knowledge. If an employee is not educated and courses are not offered, employers should take measures to offer a mandatory ethics course within their organization.

Class teacher plays a very important role in shaping the life of the children. He is the role model before the children. The innovative class teacher always creates new things within the children & inspires them to be creative & innovative. One of the creative works in the class is making a ‘Hand made Class Magazine'. I as a class teacher started the practice of class magazine by involving the children of class IX B in my school, Chinmaya Vidyalaya & now it became a feature of all the classes. An innovative class teacher doesn't think any new in the class as burden but an opportunity to be a part of creation. Involvement of the children in the editing & furnishing it solves the entire burden. The hand made creative class magazine can be prepared by the efforts of the children & the class teacher in the following ways.

1. Choosing Editorial Body in the class

Editorial board can be formed in the class. In the board the children of good at English, Art, and Hindi can be included. There should be one editor & one sub editor who are responsible for all works of the magazine. Time to time they will contact the class teacher for taking various advice & to work it out.

2. Plays the role of an adviser

Class teacher plays the role of an adviser to the editorial board & the pupil to make a magazine. Time to time he will notice the progress of the class magazine according to the time period allotted. He should think critically about the best effort that the children could give so that the magazine can be more beautiful.

3. Involvement of all members of the class

To prepare the magazine all the children should compulsorily involved. Suppose the strength of the class is 35 then the same number of articles must be in hand to prepare the magazine. The class is consisted of the heterogeneous group of writers, poets, painters etc. Some are good in Hindi & some at English. Every page should be A4 size paper so that the size of the magazine will not vary. With these 35 pages other selected pages like achievement page, class government page, content page, introductory page, editorial page, etc can be added & magazine will be of 40 to 45 pages.

4. Encouragement to original writings

While announcing the creation of a magazine, encouragement must be given to write the articles on the basis of originality, innovation & creativity. Editorial board should see that the child must not copy anything from the book or magazine. If copied or referred the child must mention the source from which he has taken. The child must maintain honesty while giving an article to the magazine.

5. Fixation of date & time

The editor must fix the last date of the submission of the articles by taking advice from the class teacher. The submission of articles is compulsory. But the tentative date of submission will bind them to write with date bound & submit. Children should be inspired not to be stick to the last date & complete the writings in a hasty method rather they should start writings from the inception of the declaration of the date.

6. Advise to design & size of the paper

There should be one size of paper for the submission of the write-ups. A-4 size paper is the best paper to be attempted. Before writing anything the paper should be design & decorated with light painting so that this background will better furnish the writing. The editor must speak about these from the very inception.

7. COLLECTIONS & Editing work

On the fixed date, the editor must collect all the articles, paintings, etc safely. He should start the editing work with the help of the editorial board afterwards. The careless & negligence articles must be rejected after due permission by the class teacher. Students should be motivated to write again to replace the rejected articles.

8. Role of the Artists

Artists of the editorial board have a vital role in shaping the magazine in a beautiful & systematic manner. They give the finishing touch to every paper of the magazine. They use colour to make the magazine beautiful.

9. Giving a title

Giving a title of the magazine is a difficult task. There should be a democratic selection of the title of the magazine in the class. The class teacher should go for the brain storming to select the title. The children should have participation in this discussion by giving one title each. At last the class teacher should fix the title out of several suggested by the children. This children involvement will increase the inclination of children towards the class & the magazine.

10. Designing Government page

There should be one page highlighting the government of the class. The posts such as President, Prime minister, Education minister etc should be highlighted by Writing their names & pasting their respective photos.

11. Editorial page

Editorial page must be designed by the editor of the class reflecting the unity & perseverance of the class as a whole. He should take the help of the class teacher while writing this page.

12. Achievement page

There must be a class achievement page where all achievements of the students like full attendance, best child of the month, Prizes for outstanding performance in any field like dance, sports, quiz, etc will get their place. The photo of the concerned persons must get the place in the achievement page.

13. Cover page

Cover page must be designed by the editor with the help of the artists & class teacher. The design of the cover page must qualify the title of the magazine. Cover page must be painted nicely with class & school name. The month & year must be highlighted on the top of the right side of the cover page.

14. Final touch by the Class Teacher & Editor

Once again the class teacher with the editor must check the pages of the magazine carefully & advise if any final touch is left aside. Then the magazine can be given for spiral binding.

In this way the magazine of a class becomes ready within a short span of time. The children themselves become aware about the creativity, innovation of the life. With this also they develop the feature of leadership quality & cooperation. The work of the magazine can inspire them to be the poets, writers, painters etc in their life beyond their academics.

Chemistry As A Hobby

From 1959 to 1977, Dr. George Crikelair directed the plastic surgery service at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. Serving in that capacity, Dr. Crikelair noted that a large number of the child patients exhibited burned clothing. Frequently the burned fabric had been part of some cotton sleepwear.

It was that observation that caused Dr. Crikelair to pursue chemistry as a hobby. His attention to that hobby earned him added recognition. He was put on a national advisory committee. That committee developed and promoted the federal Flammable Fabrics Act.

Do we have any youth today who might take up chemistry as a hobby? Such a youth might come up with an equally beneficial invention. There are two ways to locate any such youth. One requires contact with the editor of ChemMatters Magazine.

That is a magazine that targets any youth who wants to consider chemistry as a hobby. It features articles about new products for teens, especially when that new product can be explained chemically. The magazine might, for example, chose to run an article about the special rubber on Five Ten mountain climbing shoes.

The teen who would read such an article might decide to take up chemistry as a hobby. He or she might be a teen who had once received a chemistry set as a Christmas gift. One could therefore study the purchase of chemistry sets, in order to locate any potential future chemist and possible inventor.

Such a study might reveal one reason why so many chemists have been men. In the early 1970's, Anna Jane Harrison, a chemistry teacher at Mount Holyoke College, disclosed to a few students some of her Christmas gift plans. She confessed to the purchase of a chemistry set for her nephew, but not for her niece. She herself was surprised at her reluctance to "push" chemistry on her niece.

In late 1976, Anna Jane Harrison made her niece aware of chemistry in a very different way. Anna Jane Harrison became the first female president of the American Chemical Society. Since then, the Society has had a string of female presidents.

The American Chemical Society puts out a monthly publication. If one were to locate all those who receive that publication, one might find one or more retiree who has chosen to pursue chemistry as hobby.

Some retirees and environmentalists have become "kitchen chemists". They have sought to locate the chemical cause for allegedly harmful odors. They have even gone after the root cause for a very well-liked odor - the traditional "new car smell".

The choice by some to pursue chemistry as a hobby has thus encouraged them to challenge a large number of marketing specialists. Those specialists know that smell is a strong motivator, when a consumer considers a possible purchase. The new car smell encourages the consumer to buy a new car.

The marketers could turn to the chemists for creation of a different motivator.

Six Reasons to Pursue a Hobby and Four Tips to Maintain Them

If you're not yet pursuing a hobby, your reason may be one or more of the following:

I don't have the time to maintain a hobby. I don't have the money to maintain one. I think people will make fun of my hobby. I don't know what hobby to have. I think maintaining a hobby is a waste of time money and energy. Hobbies are for folks who have nothing to do; I'm not one of them. I used to have a hobby but now I'm too busy to maintain it. I'm too old or young to have a hobby.

While your reasoning may be true "to some extent", it cannot be 100 percent true. These are all just your point of view. We've all heard of the example of one person describing a half glass of water as half full and the other, half empty. Similarly, there is always a way to have and maintain a hobby which will take up as few resources as you can afford. But why have a hobby in the first place?

1. Hobbies are a good past time, a way to get away from the mundane boring life that most of us live through.

2. Hobbies have found to have a therapeutic effect by reducing stress.

3. Hobbies keep the mind active and creative, which is a good exercise for the brain. Mental exercise is as important as physical exercise.

4. Research shows that people who are more successful in life (be it in terms of wealth, health, fame or anything else) are ones who also maintain some hobby or the other.

5. There are umpteen instances where folks start doing something as a hobby and end up doing it as a very successful profession or business. It has even driven them to fame in books of world records.

6. Some folks have maintained a hobby of collecting something of no commercial value for years and years and then sold off their collection for huge fortunes.

Now, would you believe that you should have and maintain a hobby? If yes, I'm happy that my article has benefited someone. But before you start one, please keep the following points in mind:

1. You should love maintaining your hobby. If you think you will get bored in a few days or months, there's no point pursuing it.

2. You should be in a condition to afford it. While some hobbies can be really expensive (like collecting paintings or other artistic work of one or more artists like Van Gogh), you can have a hobby which starts with almost zero investment (like maybe collecting used stamps); so know your budget before you start one.

3. Be prepared to give whatever time is required in maintaining your hobby. While some hobbies can seem almost like a full time job (like gardening on a 2 acre plot), some hobbies take only a few hours every month. Some hobbies only require being alert, for example, collecting out of print books of a particular author whenever you come across old book shops. So consider the time you can afford to devote before starting a hobby.

4. Do you have the physical energy to maintain your favorite hobby? Hobbies like gardening, dancing, etc require you to have sufficient energy, which you may find a little difficult to maintain as you grow older. Additionally, crushing workloads hardly leave any energy with us, these days. Don't let this deter you; ensure that you give some time to it, however less it may seem.

What Do You Do If Your Why Isn't Big Enough?!

When I share with others that I'm training for a marathon, they inevitably ask, "How far do you run in a marathon?" The answer is, of course, 26.2 miles. Then they ask, 'Where is the marathon?" My answer this time is Washington D.C. and the Marine Corps Marathon.

The next question I get is "Why? Why would you run 26.2 miles voluntarily?!?"

Initially, I wanted to run because I wanted to lose my 'baby' weight after my second child, Ashlyn. However, for whatever reason, this goal alone didn't have a big enough 'why' attached. I was inconsistent and uncommitted. I'd run three days then miss a week, over and over again.

I knew I needed a worthier goal; a challenge that would cause me to dig deeper and commit more fully with greater attention and intention in order to succeed. I decided I needed to run a marathon. However, once again 'running a marathon' didn't have a big enough 'why' to pull me into that place of lasting commitment. Again, I would run consistently for a few weeks then slack off. I was never going to get there unless I found my bigger 'why'!

So, for my first marathon, I had to make my 'why' bigger than just me alone. I joined Team in Training which raises money for the Leukemia Society. Now, I had to not only train and run 26.2 miles but along with my brother, Chance, who runs with me, we had to raise more than $10,000.00 dollars! I have a special place in my heart for Team In Training and the Leukemia Society. I lost my grandfather to this terrible disease long before I should have and I felt that if I could make a contribution that helps in finding the cure that saves someone else's grandfather, father, or loved one, then maybe, I had my big enough 'why!'

Sure enough, this was the 'why' I needed. Chance and I ran the Mayor's Midnight Sun Marathon in Anchorage, Alaska last June and raised a significant amount of money for a worthy cause.

If you have a goal that you aren't able to fully and intentionally manifest, it may be that your 'why' simply isn't big enough.

Let's look at how our 'why's' affect us as a society. We know that welfare doesn't work. Is it because most welfare recipients 'why's' aren't big enough to do anything different? A welfare mother wants a better life but as it stands, although she's not living any form of an easy life, at least she doesn't have to work her fingers to the bone for 'enough' to get by on.

Additionally, she risks what she does have if she finds a job that pays too much to continue receiving assistance, but not enough to live on her own. Many do not have a big enough 'why' to break out of the
system.

This same 'why'-deficient apathy can be seen in certain subsets of our veterans, our physically disabled, Native American communities, and in the trust-fund babies that were born with a silver spoon, for example.

If the 'why' isn't big enough to choose to do something with our life, then we just don't. (This statement is not just about the above-mentioned subsets, but about all of us!)

What about the phenomena that happens to men who retire and suddenly experience progressive illness and early death? Research has shown that employees who retired at age 55 had almost double the mortality risk of those who continued working into their 60s Shell Health Services study, according to the report in the British Medical Journal, published Oct. 2005.) Could it be that suddenly their 'why' for living and staying healthy, their sense of purpose and meaning is no longer valid?

How many extraordinary, revolutionary changes have occurred because someone stood up for what was 'right' when their 'why' got big enough? Was it their 'why' that inspired the men and women who rallied to create the declaration of independence, the civil rights movement, or a woman's right to vote, for example?

What would happen if your WHY was big enough?

If your 'why' was big enough, you would be inspired to not just visualize, wish, and hope for your dreams to come true, you would get out and take action to make them come true. You would follow that guidance that says, "Take a risk, now!"

You would find the courage to change career paths, read that book, learn a new skill, hire some help, take a class, or interview someone that's already doing what you want to do, if your 'why' was big enough.

Relating to my own life and another time when my 'why' wasn't big enough, I recall the shift that changed it all for me. When I first started my business, my son was only a few weeks old. I was living with my husband in a very bad relationship but I had my basic needs covered, not by me but because my husband was supporting me.

I wanted to earn a living with my business but truth be told, I wasn't. It was only after I left my husband and declared that I would find a way to make this business successful even if it meant living in my car to do it, that I found the conviction to manifest success!

This is when my 'why' got big enough. I wasn't able to focus my mind and body enough to create success until I removed my safety blanket. When I found myself faced with either choosing success or choosing to live out of my car with my newborn son and my dog, I shifted into a place of determination; a focused sense of purpose that nothing and no one could stop.

What would happen if you were forced to succeed because your 'why' was big enough? What if you were told by a court of law (or an enforcement party), "You will lose your loved one (your children, your husband, your wife, your mother, your father, etc.) if you don't earn 1 million dollars in 90 days"?

Do you think you could do it? In the book The One Minute Millionaire by Mark Victor Hansen and Robert Allen, this is exactly the test that the lead character goes through. She must earn 1 Million dollars in 90 days or lose her children forever. Suddenly, her 'why' for creating success just got big enough to make her turn on her passionate fires of determination to move and and earth to make it happen!

In your life, where is your 'why' big enough and where is your 'why' not big enough?

Signs and signals that your 'why' isn't big enough:

* procrastination
* self-judgment
* embarrassment
* self-doubt
* indecisiveness
* confusion
* fear of making a mistake
* fear of failure
* apathy
* all talk but no action
* inconsistent action

When you can identify your big 'why' and combine that with your intentional thoughts, you will create the success you really want.

When we combine a big enough 'why' with a focused body/mind (our y'chi) we enact the laws of the Universe in ways that will literally part the seas for us!

For this marathon, my 'why' is about seeing things through (something I need to work on); about personal physical mastery (something that I want to make sure I'm walking my talk on), perseverance and finishing what I start (how can I ask you to do this, if I can't?)

My 'why' this time is that if I'm going to ask my clients to break down all obstacles to their success - then I better be able to do it for myself. I found my 'why' again!

For you and your big goal, where is your 'why' and if it's not big enough, courageously choose to make it bigger. The Universe always supports bold, courageous and faith-centered action. Trust in the Divine and follow your guidance.

We hardly come across a person who may be fully satisfied with the health care delivery system run by either the government or the private sector. This is true not only for developing but for all the developed countries as well. Every law abiding, contributing individual has some legitimate expectations from the state. Disenchantment with present dispensation of health care compels people to seek better options across the borders. Even the present flow rate of patients from developed to developing countries has assumed the proportions of Medical tourism. Medical tourism is not a one-way traffic. Poor from India are known to visit Rashid Hospital at Lahore for kidney transplants. Medical tourism will definitely bring in world class equipment and services in our corporate hospitals. These corporate tertiary care hospitals can act as excellent referral hospitals. Lack of enough clinical material, as the patients are often referred to in medical parleyences is prompting the doctors from developed world into medical adventurism. Very recently two NGO's headed by renowned plastic surgeons of Indian origin were in India, claiming to their credit hundreds of cleft lip and palate surgeries conducted in one week. During my brief interaction when I asked them one basic question that how do you justify single step surgery by a single specialist for a clinical entity that require 3-5 set up surgeries by 10 specialists over a period of 20 years, there was no answer. On record local doctors conduct all these surgeries. These NGO's bring in a battery of trainee resident doctors for hands on training. Dumping of questionable services and drugs continues unabated in the absence of stringent regulations. Clear-cut up to date guidelines by health authorities have yet to be issued to safe guard the health interests of this nation. Most of the drugs banned in developed countries are still being dumped in the Indian market. Commerce alone dictates the policies of multinational companies in health sector of developing countries. State and national medical councils, the watch dogs of our national health interests are controlled by elected representatives from among the doctors. Competitive populism for being elected to these high offices takes away the very sting off these regulators. In this 'market forces' driven health sector, apart from other factors, size of the population, economic prosperity and literacy levels dictate the out look of key players. Subjective as well as objective assessments of the health care operations leave people confused with huge piles of data and endless interpretations. At the tail end of govt. health care delivery system is the rural dispensary or the slum revamping center, and the end user an illiterate or semi literate villager or a slum dweller. Dispensary is the humane face, the welfare state can present to its people. In yesteryears the service providers were from among the same social class they used to serve. Doctor can be a friend, philosopher and guide to the locals. Unfortunately the economic and social disparity between the service providing doctors and the service user population has grown enormously. Ad-hocism in health care delivery should be done away with immediate effect. Doctors and paramedical staff appointed on yearly contract basis are not showing any interest in the national programmes. Established private health care providers also have not shown any meaningful commitment for national programmes. Middle class itself has fragmented. Now it is fashionable to assign economic values to any issue like gender, but for social responsibility and justice. In this era of fast paced growth, the unorganized, silently suffering millions can not be wished away. Once reading on biodiversity I stumbled upon a very interesting quote, "only the species with economic importance will survive". In our active pursuit for magnetizing economy, we assigned economic values to any thing except for morals. Commercialization of education has produced a new breed of professionals who have scant regard for professional ethics. Privatization is the buzzword with governments, because it takes away government responsibility. Private sector players are eyeing many ‘viable’ health institutions. There are no takers for commercially non-viable rural institutions. Rural health institutions dispense social medicine. Very recently one of the key players from private sector health care quoted the cost of developing one bed in corporate hospital at Rs. 30-60 lacs. These corporate health services are definitely out of each of the common man. These type of hospitals are definitely required for a nation with the present rate of growth but 'bharat' definitely needs different kind of hospitals. There are very strong social under currents against the exploitive private healthcare, inadequate government sector health care resources and the indifferent approach of welfare state. Health for all is a very lofty but expensive proposition. There are ways and means to reduce the pressure from government institutions. Private-public partnership, health insurance, monitoring and regulation of private sector health care can all make the things bit easy. Preventive health care education can go a long way in improving the public health. Community participation in health care has produced few but wonderful examples. Complementary community participation can make up for minor but critical deficiencies in the government run health care system. Setting up of health system corporations with World Bank assistance has already improved the working of govt. sector health care institutions considerably. Community participation through NGO's can still improve the system, but most of the meaningful NGO's turn their back on govt. run health care institutions because of their doubts on the integrity of government officers. Government health care institution are increasingly seen not as caring hospitals but like police stations, where medico legal reports are written and postmortems conducted. Most of the government doctors' time is spent in courts appearing as medico legal experts witnesses. Emergency, post mortem, and then the VIP duties in addition hardly leave the doctors free for any meaningful job at government hospitals. There is an urgent need to have separate curative, preventive, legal, administrate and health intelligence wings. Government hospitals attract the poorest of the poor, mostly people from the unorganized sector. Their contribution to national GDP is by no means small. With the present growth rate, upward social mobility is seen in every strata of society. Many segments of this unorganized sector can be organised so that they also enjoy the patronage of welfare state in the form of health insurance policies. Apart from direct benefit to these segments of society, the state will benefit from the 'off loading' of burden from government run health care system and loading it on insurance driven private sector health care institutions. Poorest of the poor will repose faith in welfare state. Sanjivini, health insurance policy with the Punjab Milkmen Cooperative Societies is already a big success. ECHS (Ex servicemen Contributory Health Scheme) is an other success story. These success stories can be replicated with countless groups like, panwallas, dhabewallas, autorikshaw drivers etc. Simply organize the unorganized sector. There is no dearth of role models from among government doctors also. Their inclusion rather than drift after dissent from the present dispensation of health care will immensely improve the system. Stability of tenure is an excellent incentive government can give to its doctors without costing anything to exchequer. Yet tenure beyond decades should be discouraged as it leads to development of vested interests of the old incumbents and denial of chance to the youngsters. Resource mismatching is a major problem in the govt. run health care system. There are dispensaries where specialists are posted and still many more civil hospitals where non-specialist are posted. These mismatching result in defective and inefficient health care. Nodal Hospitals can be created for round the clock emergency services by cannibalizing defunct and sick institutions where equipment worth crores is lying unused and salary bills are bleeding the exchequer white. Most of the medical officers retire in the same administrate rank. This undue stagnation has forced many a brilliant doctors out of service. By simply seeking options for place of posting, honestly implementing with minimum displacement on merit can also revitalize the govt. doctors' cadres. Private sector health care delivery system is a totally market driven commercial enterprise. So called 'market forces' have least respect for ethical and moral value systems. Multi level marketing chains have evolved in the name of referral systems. End result is exploitation of the unsuspecting common man, who still regards his healer a holy person. This 'incentive' system is strengthening the hold of unqualified, unscrupulous and unregistered medical practitioners on illiterate masses. Not many qualified doctors are unscrupulous. A large section of private health care providers feel genuinely threatened by blackmailers of all sorts. Consumer protection act is a very convenient beating stick in the hands of their tormentors.
Under the constant threat of being blackmailed, the private health care providers are becoming more defensive in attitude. More patients are being referred to tertiary care institutions for this reason only, thereby flooding the referral institutions. People have a common feeling that sickness is an invitation for exploitation at the hands of private health care providers. Even the charitable hospitals are charging as heavily as fully private hospitals. Medical profession is fully responsible and capable of self-correction. Medical councils and associations can jointly evolve a fail-safe mechanism to keep their black sheep under check even without government help, but the buck stops with the government. Welfare state is duty bound not only in providing health care delivery system but also proper health care administration and social justice through its health care delivery mechanism.

HS can appear at any age, even in newborns, although doctors prefer to put off removing the spleen until the child is five or six years old.

Risks

The chief risk following splenectomy is overwhelming bacterial infection, or postsplenectomy sepsis. This vulnerability results from the body's decreased ability to clear bacteria from the blood, and lowered levels of a protein in blood plasma that helps to fight viruses (immunoglobulin M). The risk of dying from infection after splenectomy is highest in children, especially in the first two years after surgery. The risk of postsplenectomy sepsis can be reduced by vaccinations before the operation. These scales bear two or three fertile flowers. Each flower consists of a bare ovary. The ovary is compresed, two-celled, and grouped with two slender styles. The ovule is solitary. The ripenened pistillate ament bears tiny winged nuts, packed in the protecting curve of each brown and woody scale. These nuts are pale chestnut brown and compressed. The seed fills the cavity of the nut. All of the birch species are easily grown from seed.

i) Vegans:
The followers of this type of diet stay away from all and any meat products as well as such food items that are derived from meat such as eggs, honey and even milk and its products. Stricter vegans stay clear even from beer and some wines. Others also do not use cane sugar because bone char is used in the production of it. Though not related, such dieters would also not buy jackets, purses or shoes made from furs or leather.

ii) Macrobiotics:

D) Raw Vegans:
Also called raw foodists limit themselves to unprocessed food that has not been heated above 115 degrees Fahrenheit or 46 degrees Celsius. Therefore, their diet mainly consists of raw vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds. However, some of the raw foodists do consist raw food that was derived from animals in their diet including raw eggs, unheated dairy products and sushi.

E) Pescetarians:
The pescatarian or pescetarian (depending on how you spell it) are those who refrain from consuming meat but will take in shellfish, sea food and fish. This group of vegetarians are less formed from those who have become vegetarians because of ideology and more from those who are forced to follow such a diet due to health problems. Others also rationalize that the killing of fish is much less crueler than the killing of animals or that fish are not as intelligent as animals grown on a farm.

In addition to the types mentioned above, there are some smaller groups who follow a similar diet such as:
1) Pollo Vegetarians who eat poultry.
2) Flexitarians who refrain from meat only if the specific beast was raised or slaughtered cruelly.
3) Freeganists who eat all kinds of meat unless the environment was damaged or humans or animals were exploited while the meat was being prepared.
